November 19, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
The Cafe des Arts warmly welcomes you to come to our Lumiere seminar, Sunday 19th November, 16:00-17:30 at Fisher House for two incredible papers about the fantastic event that shall be lighting up your streets at the end of the week, before walking down into the Lumiere Festival itself to experience the light spectacle fully!
Kate Harvey, Senior Producer of Artichoke, the arts company in association with Durham Arts County Council, shall be presenting a paper on the Lumiere Festival with slides and images to illustrate the creative process of this fantastic event. To accompany her, Finola Finn shall be presenting a paper based on her University project on the Lumiere Festival, talking about its significance and the creative process from the point of view of academia.
For those of you who don’t know, the Lumiere Festival is a festival of lights using Durham City as an illuminated space and installation of art for people to walk through and experience. This weekend, November 16-19th Durham city shall be transformed by international artists to create works that light buildings and public spaces, changing the way that we think and feel about the spaces that we live in day in day out.
The first Lumiere light festival took place in Durham in 2009. Originally planned as a one off, with the support of Durham County Council and other sponsors, producers Artichoke have brought the event back to the North East every other year since. In 2015, a record 200,000 visitors came to the event enjoying a ‘whale’ in the River Wear, mysterious rolling fog, and an interactive projection onto the inner roof of Durham Cathedral.
So please come down to Fisher House, 4 P.M. this Sunday and enjoy this incredible event before we walk down into town and experience the Lumiere Festival itself fully on its last night in Durham city!
